Now 24 years old - Ruben recently retired from professional soccer, discerning that God was calling him in a new direction. Ruben's career encompassed representing the Puerto Rico Men’s National team (CONCACAF NATIONS LEAGUE) and playing/training in top leagues across Europe, including Spain, the Netherlands, and Denmark, as well as in Australia.
Teams include: AZ Alkmaar (Europa League & Eredivisie), Central Coast Mariners (Asian Champions League, A-League), Randers FC (Danish Superliga), AD Merida (Spain Primera RFEF)
During his professional career, off the field, Ruben served in ministry across various churches around the world. These experiences played a pivotal role in Ruben stepping away from soccer to start RTJ Athletes.
Issak Abraham is going into his Sophomore year at Seattle University, where he spent the Spring season with the Division 1 Men’s Soccer Team. Prior to joining Seattle U, Issak played at the ECNL level with Seattle United and was named Wesco 3A All-Area MVP during his senior year at Shorewood High School. A proven competitor with experience at both the club and collegiate levels, Issak brings high-level performance and leadership to every environment. He has been an RTJ athlete for 10 months and is now stepping into a mentorship role to help guide and uplift the next generation of athletes.
RTJ Athletes is continually in prayer and conversation as we grow our team of mentors. Reach out for training—we’d love to share more about the Christ-centered trainers we're bringing on!
Becoming an RTJ Athletes Coach is a significant commitment, and we approach the application process with the seriousness it deserves. Aside from the athletic aspect, we seek mentors who are deeply devoted to their faith and understand the profound responsibility of discipling others. As part of our support system for our RTJ mentors, each mentor will be assigned an older mentor (sponsored by RTJ)—someone in part-time ministry or ministerial experience—who will meet with them for 30 minutes each week. The older mentor has a different role from that of an RTJ mentor; they are solely there to connect with and support the RTJ mentors, not the athletes, and to mentor them through their RTJ work as well as their athletic and faith growth outside of RTJ.
*The application process for older mentors closely mirrors the process we use for RTJ Coaches*
Our application process includes the following steps:
These steps ensure that our mentors are not only committed to their own faith development but also well-supported by their faith community. If you feel called to become an RTJ mentor or older mentor, please reach out!
